The DSO's Free Outdoor Concert - “The Sixties:
In Sound & On Stage”

Embark on a Warhol-Inspired Journey with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra’s Free Outdoor Concert - “The Sixties: In Sound & On Stage”

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 9, when the Memorial Park Bandshell in downtown Wheaton becomes the epicenter of an unforgettable evening of music, culture, and artistry by the award-winning DuPage Symphony Orchestra.

Inspired by Andy Warhol’s distinctive career, “The Sixties: In Sound & On Stage” is more than just a concert: it’s a dynamic, thought-provoking retrospective of a decade that shaped an entire generation. The 1960s – a time of upheaval, transformation, and artistic revolution – comes alive through a vibrant collage of Broadway medleys, chart-topping pop hits, and iconic theme songs that defined an era.

Witness the metamorphosis of musical theater unfold before your eyes, as the DSO traces the evolution from wholesome classics like The Music Man and The Sound of Music to the groundbreaking “HAIR: An American Tribal Love-Rock Musical,” which premiered in 1967 and revolutionized the Broadway landscape.

Chart a musical journey through the changing tides of style with electrifying performances of hits by legendary artists such as The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, and the unparalleled phenomenon that was The Beatles. These chart-toppers will have you grooving to the beat, while theme songs from Mission: Impossible and James Bond transport you to recollections of espionage and intrigue – and memories that remain etched in our collective consciousness.

As a special treat, you’ll be able to watch local artist Lewis Achenbach transform this special concert into a living canvas of artistry, capturing the essence of Andy Warhol’s distinctive style right before your eyes. As a distinctive tribute to the artistic visionary who drew inspiration from the decade of the 1960s, this live painting spectacle adds an extra layer of interest to an already unforgettable event.

Come early, bring your friends and family, and immerse yourself in the magic of a decade that forever changed the course of history. Admission is free. The DuPage Symphony’s September 9 concert begins at 7:00 PM at Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton.
