DSO Residencies
Michael Udow, Composer
The DSO hosted Dr. Michael Udow as composer-in-residence for our March 19, 2022 concert, “Reflections.” A tremendously versatile composer, Dr. Udow’s works include operas, symphonies, chamber music, and music for dance & theater. In addition to his assistance with the DSO’s performance of his compelling “The Shattered Mirror Suite” during his residency, Dr. Udow also presented masterclasses and workshops for several DuPage county and Chicago area high schools and universities. In recognition of his work as a performer, composer, educator, and author, Michael Udow has been selected as a 2022 inductee into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame.

Christopher Garcia, Artist
The DSO hosted Christopher Garcia as artist-in-residence for our November 19, 2022 concert, “Mexico & Spain.” Mr. Garcia is a specialist in indigenous Mexican instruments and music and demonstrated many of these instruments.
Mr. Garcia is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator with critical accolades and popular acclaim in 28 countries on five continents who has given hundreds of performances and presentations. Mr. Garcia is a “Who’s Who” in the world of music, equally skilled with drum set, marimba, the percussion of North and South India, and is a specialist in the indigenous wind, string and percussion instruments of Mesoamerica and Mexico.

With our youth educational and community engagement programs, the DSO strives to enrich our community and bring the real-life experience of symphonic music to new audiences.
