DSO Brings Nordic Soundscapes to Wentz Concert Hall
DuPage Symphony Orchestra Brings the Magic of the Nordic Soundscapes to Wentz Concert Hall on Saturday, November 16
The DuPage Symphony Orchestra (DSO), under the baton of Maestra Barbara Schubert, is thrilled to announce its upcoming concert, Scandinavian Showcase, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 7:30 pm at Wentz Concert Hall. This program highlights the works of renowned Nordic composers and features internationally acclaimed violinist, Ariel Horowitz.
Praised by The Washington Post as a “sweetly lyrical” violinist with “a song in her heart,” Horowitz brings her extraordinary talent to Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in D Minor. A relentless test of virtuosity, Sibelius’s concerto is hailed for its haunting beauty, exploring the deep emotional and atmospheric landscapes of the composer’s native Finland.
Horowitz, a laureate of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, has performed with orchestras around the world and is renowned for her passion for classical music, her unique artistry, and her commitment to social causes through the arts.
Program highlights include the following works:
- Niels Gade: Michelangelo Overture, Op. 39
- Carl Nielsen: Saga-Drøm, Op. 39
- Edvard Grieg: In Autumn, Op. 11
- Jean Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D Minor, Op. 47, featuring Ariel Horowitz
Maestra Barbara Schubert expressed her excitement for the concert, saying, “The Scandinavian Showcase repertoire offers a rich tapestry of Nordic musical traditions, from the romantic lyricism of Gade and Grieg to the introspective storytelling of Nielsen and the powerful emotional journey of Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. We are honored to present Ariel Horowitz, a gifted artist whose performance of Sibelius promises to be nothing short of spectacular.”
