Resources for Teachers
The DuPage Symphony Orchestra offers numerous opportunities to help get kids excited about the performing arts.
If you are a music/band/orchestra teacher or someone who organizes group events and want a flyer to send to your students or their parents, you can download a pdf or jpeg flyer. If you need additional resources, please contact Kristin Chmiel at email@example.com.
Our Family Events include:
Inside the Orchestra: Open Dress Rehearsals – Watch the orchestra rehearse and learn about the process of music making from Maestra Schubert. Each concert this season features an award-winning soloist and music that explores various regions of the world. Our KidsNotes and Junior Passport will teach kids more about the music and orchestra. During the break, audience members can explore the Instrument Petting Zoo, meet Maestra Schubert, our soloist and the musicians, and enjoy refreshments. Our guest artist schedule includes: Oct. 10, Ariana Strahl, soprano; Nov. 15, Rachel Barton Pine, violin; Feb. 7, Mitya Nilov, marimba; Mar. 20, DSO Young Artists Auditions winner; May 15, Yi-Nuo Wang, piano. You can view additional details here.

Arabian Nights (Oct. 27 at 2 & 4 pm) - Celebrate Halloween with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra as they once again join forces with the Naperville Youth Symphony Orchestra to bring you an imaginative and fun-filled family concert for Halloween, complete with costumes, crafts, storytelling, and vivid orchestral music.
’Tis the Season (Dec. 15 at 2 & 4 pm) - The DSO's Annual Holiday concert includes a distinctive constellation of Christmas and seasonal works. What would Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride be without Santa on the podium?
Opportunities for High School students:
Volunteer – High school students earn volunteer hours and hands-on experience by helping out at our Inside the Orchestra: Open Dress Rehearsals, Season concerts, and Family concerts. Tasks include helping children play instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo, stuffing programs, helping at the Patron Services Table, and other duties as needed. If you have students who are interested in participating, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Preludes & Interludes Performances - These short chamber performances take place in the lobby during intermission or prior to various DSO concerts and provide a valuable opportunity for chamber ensembles, made up of high school musicians in DuPage County, to perform at DuPage Symphony Orchestra concerts throughout the season. View additional information here.
Young Artists Auditions - The DSO encourages serious study and musical excellence among young musicians through its annual Young Artists Auditions held Feb. 1, 2020. Each entrant will be evaluated by experienced judges and will receive written comments and suggestions based on their individual performances. View additional information here.
