Gail Sonkin

Gail Sonkin is a musician and educator with a passion for music, education, and the arts. She has been a member of the oboe section for the past 12 years, specializing in English horn, and performs with ensembles throughout the area, including the Wheaton Municipal Band, Naperville Winds, and Fox Valley Orchestra. She has also performed piano with ZAZZ, a jazz combo, for more than 20 years.

As an educator, Gail specializes in helping students with language-based learning challenges, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and auditory processing difficulties. Over more than 20 years at the College of DuPage Center for Independent Learning, she worked with adults and college students to strengthen their reading and writing skills.

Gail has served as Vice President of the Wheaton Municipal Band for approximately 20 years and has helped develop music education programs with Wheaton middle schools.

She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from DePaul University and a Master of Music from Northwestern University, along with advanced coursework in education. A longtime Wheaton resident, Gail is an avid cyclist and passionate supporter of musical theater and the arts.
