EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Music Education Specialists

(This is a grant-funded position with project-based payment.)

The DuPage Symphony Orchestra seeks to engage up to 4 different Music Education Specialists to assist the DSO in refining and expanding its educational outreach plan, which serves school-age children in DuPage County and its immediate surrounding communities. The DSO’s outreach efforts are designed to cultivate an awareness and appreciation of great orchestral music amongst various age-groups, through a combination of on-line activities, in-person engagement, live concert experiences, and supplemental support materials available to classroom teachers, parents, scout leaders, and other interested parties. Targeted age groupings are grades K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. Two tracks are anticipated for each age group – one for students with little or no musical training and another for students taking private lessons and/or involved in band, orchestra, or other ensembles.

The educational specialists will work closely with DSO Music Director Barbara Schubert and members of the DSO Educational Outreach and Community Engagement Committee to fulfill the steps outlined in the orchestra’s Strategic Plan and to help plan further development of the DSO’s outreach efforts. First priority is the creation of substantive online educational materials relevant to the DSO’s mission that will include a diverse representation of composers, genres, historical periods, and instrumentation, which can be utilized during the ongoing pandemic. Estimated commitment: up to 40-50 hours total, through March 31, 2021. Compensation based on experience and scope of completed work.

The creation of materials that are suitable for immediate use as well as templates for the future is desirable.

Interested candidates should submit the following materials by December 20, 2020:

  • letter of interest, indicating age-range of specialization and summarizing relevant experience

  • resumé or CV, including musical background and familiarity with DuPage County music programs

  • sample lesson plan, activities proposal, program notes, or other relevant support material (if available)

Please email materials to info@dupagesymphony.org and include Music Education Specialists in the subject line. If you have additional questions, please email info@dupagesymphony.org.
