Young Musicians Invited to Shine at 69th Annual Young Artists Auditions
DuPage Symphony Orchestra Invites Young Musicians to Shine at Young Artists Auditions
The DuPage Symphony Orchestra (DSO) invites talented high school musicians to participate in its 69th Annual Young Artists Auditions on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville. This prestigious program offers young instrumentalists and vocalists the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and the chance to perform as a soloist with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra.
“For nearly 70 years, the Young Artists Auditions have showcased the remarkable talents of our local youth,” said Maestra Barbara Schubert, DSO Music Director. “The dedication and artistry displayed by these musicians are always inspiring, and we are proud to provide a platform for their growth and success.”
The competition is open to high school students residing in DuPage, Kane, Kendall, or Will counties. Eligible performers include instrumentalists playing orchestral instruments, pianists, and vocalists, provided their chosen piece has an orchestral accompaniment readily available.
The First Place Winner will receive a $500 cash award and perform their winning piece with the DSO during the concert on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Wentz Concert Hall. The Second Place Winner will receive a $300 cash award. Both winners may be invited to participate in additional DSO events throughout the year.
Behind the scenes, the DSO’s Educational Partnership and Community Engagement Committee, led by prominent local music educators, has played a critical role in ensuring a rewarding and professional experience for all participants. “Members of the DSO’s EP/CE Committee have dedicated their careers to mentoring young musicians,” noted Mari Ullrick, DSO’s Strategic Director of Operations and Engagement. “Their influence echoes through the lives of countless students.”
Dr. Joanne May, a lifelong music educator and passionate advocate for youth in the arts, emphasized the importance of this event: “These auditions give young musicians a platform to express themselves, grow as artists, and discover the joy of sharing their music with others. Programs like this keep the arts alive and ensure we pass that gift on to the next generation.”
The deadline to apply online is Friday, January 24, 2025, and requires a $40 non-refundable entry fee. Scholarships are available for those who need financial support. Please visit dupagesymphony.org/young-artists-auditions-information-and-application/ for more information.
