"Keys and Crescendos"
DuPage Symphony Orchestra and Books Del Sur Partner in “Keys and Crescendos” to Bring the Power of Music to Over 550 Local Students
The DuPage Symphony Orchestra (DSO) proudly partnered with Books Del Sur, a leading bilingual publishing company, to present an unforgettable educational experience, “Keys and Crescendos,” to over 550 students from eight DuPage County schools. Thanks to Books Del Sur’s generous sponsorship, the students attended a professional concert at the stunning Wentz Concert Hall featuring internationally acclaimed pianist Llewellyn Sánchez-Werner, along with members of the DuPage Symphony Orchestra and Maestra Barbara Schubert.
In addition to the concert, students were treated to an interactive primer led by Sánchez-Werner, Maestra Schubert, and three DSO musicians. This educational component introduced students to the instruments of the orchestra, the role of a conductor, and the expressive power of live classical music.
“We believe deeply in the transformative power of books and the arts,” said Mari Ullrick, Strategic Director of Operations and Engagement for the DSO. “This collaboration with Books Del Sur allowed students to experience live orchestral music in a way that was both inspiring and accessible.”
Eight local schools participated in the program, bringing students in grades 3 through 5 to the packed concert hall. Teachers and students alike praised the experience:
“I never knew music could tell a story without any words,” said one fourth-grade student from Naperville.
“The pianist was so cool! I also really loved the cool Mexican drums!” shared a student from Addison.
“This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students,” said a teacher from Elk Grove Village. “For many, it was their first time attending a concert in a venue like Wentz Concert Hall—and they were completely captivated.”
This event marks a growing commitment by the DuPage Symphony Orchestra to expand arts access and music education across DuPage County.
