American Salute!

Cantigny Park in Wheaton

Cantigny Park DSO

As part of the America250 celebration at Cantigny Park, the DuPage Symphony presents a colorful and varied program showcasing quintessential American folk songs, popular melodies, and home-grown orchestral works. Opening with Morton Gould’s exuberant American Salute, this special concert traces the time between the Declaration of Independence and the Civil War with an array of folk song medleys, featuring popular music of the time. The focus then turns to American composers of the ensuing century – George Wakefield Chadwick, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, and Leonard Bernstein – to display some of their most famous works from the concert hall and the Broadway stage. The DSO’s celebratory program concludes with the rousing finale from Antonín Dvořák’s New World Symphony, along with Aaron Copland’s Hoe-Down from his iconic 1942 ballet Rodeo.

Admission is free with paid parking: $21 per automobile. Free to Cantigny members.
