The DSO at Wheaton Memorial Park

Wheaton Memorial Park

The DuPage Symphony’s free, outdoor concert on Saturday, September 9, offers a lively, engaging, and thought-provoking retrospective on a turbulent and transformative decade in American history. This very special program – “The Sixties: In Sound & On Stage” – will feature a collage of Broadway medleys symbolizing the gradual but profound cultural shift that took place over the years: from The Music Man and The Sound of Music to HAIR, an “American Tribal Love-Rock Musical” that premiered in 1967.  Chart-topping hits by The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, and of course The Beatles showcase a similar trajectory in style and intensity.  And who can forget the iconic theme songs from Mission: Impossible and James Bond, still at the forefront of memories of the 1960’s. Join us at the beautiful Memorial Park Bandshell in downtown Wheaton as the DSO paints a picture of the seminal decade that helped inspire the artistry of Andy Warhol – and watch local artist Lewis Achenbach create a vibrant painting on stage during the concert itself, as a tribute to Warhol’s distinctive style.
