"The Great Outdoors"
Wheaton Memorial Park
The DuPage Symphony Orchestra’s mid-summer concert celebrates The Great Outdoors, with music of Aaron Copland, Ferde Grofé, Richard Rodgers, John Williams, and more. Opening with Copland’s An Outdoor Overture, the musical focus then turns to the great rivers of the world: with Smetana’s The Moldau, excerpts from Grofé’s Mississippi Suite, and a selection of popular songs – Shenandoah, Sea Fever, and Ol’ Man River – with baritone soloist Jeffrey Ray. Selections from Broadway shows and Hollywood films cap this lively program: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!, John Williams’ Cowboys Overture, and Elmer Bernstein’s Theme from The Magnificent Seven.
